Position Title: Director of Safety
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Job Summary: We are seeking a Director of Safety to lead and manage all safety-related initiatives across our construction operations. This role will ensure compliance with safety regulations, promote a culture of safety, and minimize risks for employees and our subcontractors. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with a deep understanding of safety in construction environments and a passion for continuous improvement.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in OHS, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Certifications such as NSCO (National Construction Safety Officer), CSP (Certified Safety Professional), or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in construction safety, on residential and commercial projects.
Job Duties
- Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Set strategic direction by leading high-level site audits and assessments to mitigate risk and ensure adherence to industry standards.
- Direct and oversee the root cause analysis of incidents, driving organization-wide corrective actions to foster continuous improvement.
- Provide leadership and guidance to site teams, fostering a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
- Liaison any conditions with department of labor as applicable.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to shape and manage the safety strategy, budget, and performance objectives, ensuring alignment with broader business goals.
- Monitor and analyze safety metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Communicate safety performance insights and strategic recommendations to senior management through comprehensive, actionable reports.
- Lead, Coach and Manage the entire safety department and direct reports.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes.

- Strong knowledge of OHSA standards and other applicable safety regulations.
